After doing some work in physical therapy, I find I have several subtle postural alignment issues I was not previously aware of. In the traditional method, if you were lucky, your teacher might notice these subtle issues, correct you, and then the exercise might help you self-correct over time. I need to temporarily have some tension to correct some imbalances in opposing muscle groups (some are too tight and shortened and others are too loose and lengthened), then maybe I can hold postures correctly with minimal tension. So I am sort of in prehab at a stage even before basic standing. Argh. I am hoping to get better at zhan zhuang, and various stabilization postures and go from there back into actual movement exercises. Then back to some actual MA training again.
