This sweep from a baguazhang video of Mike Patterson (the title here seems to be incorrect in labeling it tai chi) is pretty much the same sweep shown in the Human Weapon: Sambo episode except the Sambo demo caught the arm from the outside in a rollback and pull down motion then pulled on the collarbone (demonstrated from a strike) while sweeping.
The bagua sweep arm is more like judo’s tani otoshi. I like the sweep version as it’s not a sacrifice throw. To pull it off in judo will be more difficult as no one will give me as much forward energy as in a strike, but should still be a good one.
The cool thing about the same basic sweep is it doesn’t matter which way the opponent’s arm goes. There is a good basic sweep either way. Have to try it both ways many times.
