Here is another very clear article on zhan zhuang from an yiquan point of view. I think it’s interesting that the author recommends starting with only 5 – 10 seconds. Time spent doing zhan zhuang is a big question for me now as I’m experimenting with it avidly. I naturally want to “progress” and increase the time each session but maybe that is not the best idea. I am managing to keep it up every day and perhaps that is more important for the time being. I don’t want to get burned out or possibly overtrain, though that is not really my natural tendency. My shoulder “mobilisers” are probably getting overtaxed at the moment so I should probably take a break or scale back this initial effort.
